Compare the birth-date gap and each person's age

An age difference calculator compares two dates of birth and returns the exact age gap in years, months, and days, plus total days and full weeks.

Use it to calculate age difference between two people, compare sibling birthdays, check a partner age gap, or measure labeled events. It also identifies who is older and marks the midpoint.

The same dates, read two ways

These two results describe May 10, 1995 to August 24, 1998.

Calendar gap3 years, 3 months, 14 days

The exact age difference in calendar language.

Elapsed interval1,202 days

How many days apart the two birthdays are.

Both are exact, but each answers a different question.

Set up a comparison you can verify

  1. Enter Entry A's full date and optional name.
  2. Add Entry B's full date. Either birthday can come first.
  3. Choose Compare dates to calculate the age gap in calendar and elapsed units.
  4. Confirm the earlier and later labels before copying or sharing.

Why the two answers should stay together

Calendar units answer the birthday question in completed years, months, and days. Elapsed time answers how many days apart the birthdays are. Keeping both prevents an average-year conversion from being mistaken for an exact gap.

Entry order never decides who is older

In a date-of-birth comparison, the earlier birthday is older. Names stay attached after sorting, so reversing A and B never changes the age difference.

Where month ends and leap days matter

Months contain 28 to 31 days, and February 29 can change the elapsed total. Use this birthday difference calculator for siblings, partners, classmates, genealogy, or labeled events; use Date Duration when boundary-inclusion rules matter.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about who is older, date order, sibling and couple age gaps, leap days, privacy, and the limits of date-only arithmetic.

How do I calculate the exact age difference between two people?

Enter both full dates of birth. Either person can go in Entry A; the calculator sorts them and reports the calendar gap and elapsed totals.

Who is older, and by exactly how much?

The earlier date of birth is older. The result identifies that person and shows the exact gap in years, months, and days.

Can an exact age gap change as two people get older?

No. The interval between fixed birth dates stays constant, although whole-year ages can look closer or farther apart between the two birthdays.

Should I use age difference in years, months, and days or total days?

Use calendar units for birthday language and total days for one fixed elapsed interval. The result provides both without rounding.

Why is subtracting the two birth years not enough?

Birth years ignore month and day. Full dates reveal the remaining calendar months and days that a year-only answer leaves out.

How does February 29 affect the comparison?

A February 29 inside the interval adds to elapsed days. Calendar units follow real Gregorian boundaries rather than a 365-day approximation.

What happens when both entries have the same date?

The result reports Same date and zero elapsed days. Optional labels remain visible so you can confirm the entries compared.

Can I use this age gap calculator for siblings or couples?

Yes. Compare siblings, partners, friends, classmates, or historical figures. The result is neutral date arithmetic and does not judge relationships or compatibility.

Can this tool compare birth times or time zones?

No. This is date-only. Use a time-difference tool when hours, birth times, or time zones can change the answer.

Are optional names and birth dates saved?

The calculation runs in your browser without an account. Names and dates are not sent to a calculation API.
