The Weeks Between Dates Calculator counts the exact elapsed days, groups them into complete seven-day periods, and keeps any remaining days visible. A span of 45 days is therefore 6 full weeks and 3 days, while the decimal representation is about 6.429 weeks. Rounding either value alone would lose useful information.

The result also includes calendar years, months, and days, the interval midpoint, date order, start and end weekdays, and leap-day context. These supporting facts help distinguish duration weeks from named weeks on a calendar.

Measure a span in seven-day units

  1. Enter the two endpoint dates in either order.
  2. Calculate to produce one elapsed-day span before it is converted to weeks.
  3. Use full weeks plus days for scheduling and decimal weeks for a formula that expects a fraction.
  4. Keep the original dates with any exported value so the boundary can be reproduced later.

Duration weeks are not ISO week numbers

A duration week is any consecutive block of seven elapsed days beginning at the selected start. ISO week numbers label Monday-based calendar weeks and can cross a year boundary. Starting in the middle of ISO week 20 does not shorten the first duration week.

The dashboard reports endpoint week context separately, so those labels cannot be mistaken for the calculated quantity.

Decimal weeks preserve the same day total

Decimal weeks are elapsed days divided by seven. They can be useful in charts, estimates, or study records, but the displayed decimal may be rounded. Full weeks and remainder days reconstruct the original integer total without that rounding.

Date-only weeks avoid clock assumptions

The calculation compares calendar dates rather than timestamps. Daylight-saving changes do not turn one week into 167 or 169 hours. For shifts or exact instants, use Hours and Time Duration with times and timezones.

This distinction is especially important for project plans that begin at a particular clock time. A date-only plan treats the endpoints as calendar labels. If a seven-day span begins Tuesday afternoon and ends the following Tuesday morning, an instant-based calculation is shorter than one week even though the dates are seven days apart.

For pregnancy dating or clinical age, use the appropriate specialist method rather than assuming a generic elapsed-week count carries medical meaning.
