Define the workweek before counting it

A business days calculator counts dates considered working days under a stated schedule. Saturday and Sunday are common weekends, but Friday–Saturday and Sunday-only patterns also exist. Public holidays vary further by country, region, employer, and year, so this page never pretends one hidden global calendar fits everyone.

Choose between counting business days in an interval and adding or subtracting a working-day quantity. The result separates business dates, weekend dates, and weekday holidays, then records boundary rules, actual excluded holidays, target weekday, and elapsed calendar span.

Model the schedule you actually use

  1. Select Count for an interval or Adjust to move a number of business days from one date.
  2. Enter the dates or quantity, then choose the correct weekend pattern.
  3. Add known non-working dates in ISO format and decide whether the starting boundary counts.
  4. Calculate and keep the schedule assumptions beside the number when using it in a plan.

A weekday is not automatically a business day

Monday through Friday may form the candidate workweek, but an entered holiday removes a date from business status. A weekend holiday does not remove a second weekday; it remains categorized as a weekend unless your policy supplies an observed substitute date.

The distribution visual makes each excluded category visible instead of presenting one opaque total.

Count mode and adjust mode use different questions

Count mode asks how many working dates occur between boundaries. Adjust mode walks forward or backward until a required number of business days has been reached. Whether the start itself consumes one day is a separate control in adjust mode.

Do not treat this as an official holiday service

Court, bank, shipping, payroll, visa, and government calendars can include local closures, cut-off times, or observed-day rules not present here. Enter verified dates and compare the result with the responsible authority before relying on a deadline.

For simple calendar-day inclusion without work status, use Days Between Dates instead.

If a holiday falls on a weekend but your organization observes it on Monday, enter the observed Monday explicitly. The calculator does not infer substitution rules because they vary even within the same country.

For rotating shifts or part-time schedules, a simple weekend pattern may be insufficient. Treat the output as a standard workweek estimate and count the actual roster separately when precision affects pay or commitments.

Frequently asked questions

Schedule-specific answers about weekends, holidays, boundaries, count versus adjust, and official deadlines.

What counts as a business day?

A date counts when it is not in the chosen weekend pattern and not in the custom holiday set.

Are public holidays included automatically?

No. Enter the verified holiday or closure dates that apply to your location and organization.

Can Friday and Saturday be the weekend?

Yes. Select that pattern before calculating; the result repeats it in the assumptions.

Does the starting date count?

It depends on the selected interval boundary or adjust-mode start option. The page makes that choice explicit.

Can I subtract working days?

Yes. In Adjust mode choose Subtract and the calculator walks backward across non-working dates.

Can I rely on this for a court deadline?

No without authoritative confirmation. Jurisdictions can define service, closures, observed holidays, and filing times differently.
