A Chinese zodiac lookup changes around Chinese New Year rather than January 1. Showing only an animal or sign without the convention can therefore be misleading.

People born near a boundary may see different cusp dates in different references because a full astronomical chart can depend on year, time, location, and the convention used. This site does not calculate a natal chart, ascendant, moon sign, or astronomical position.
For January and early-February birthdays, the Gregorian year alone is not enough. The calculator checks the Chinese New Year boundary for the selected year before assigning the animal. If an official cultural calendar or a family tradition uses another interpretation, keep that source with the result.
A clear entertainment label separates a conventional lookup from a tested measurement. It also prevents broad sign descriptions from sounding like diagnoses or guaranteed predictions. The useful part of the result is the named convention and boundary, not a claim that the sign determines a person's character.
