Calendar milestones and fixed-duration milestones diverge
Twelve calendar months after January 31 follows month-end rules; 365 days after that date follows a fixed count. One calendar year can contain 365 or 366 days. The selected unit determines the method, and the assumption list keeps it attached to the answer.

Why one billion seconds needs a birth time
A date identifies a 24-hour window, not one instant. Assuming midnight can place a seconds milestone many hours away from the true moment. Add the known local time and timezone to convert the start to an instant; otherwise the warning keeps the estimate honest.
Choose milestones that communicate something
Round numbers can make elapsed time memorable, but more metrics do not automatically add value. Use a unit the recipient understands, include the target weekday, and avoid claiming personal significance or health meaning that the calculation cannot supply.
